Dave Spencer of Devourment
Dave Spencer was born and raised in Philadelphia. He started playing guitar in middle school, and started a death metal band called With Immortality in 1998. They did several albums and played several fests over 10 years before separating. Dave then switched to 7 string guitar and joined old school death metal band Insatanity. He did a few albums with Insatanity, as well as several fests, two U.S. and one European tours. In that time, Dave also picked up the bass and joined Nightfire and Antikythera. He played on both 4 and 5 string fretless basses.
Antikythera’s music video for the song Element Nexus can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ahLP-gdBFDM
In 2012, Dave moved to Dallas Texas and joined Psychiatric Regurgitation on guitar, doing one album, two U.S. and two European tours. Dave then had the opportunity of playing bass with Devourment founders Brad Fincher and Brian Wynn, in their new project Meshiha. Being a fan of the Randy Rhoads style guitar, Dave had Roeller’s Custom Gutiars make a 5 string fretless Roeller V – bass. After one Meshiha CD and several festival gigs, Brad re-joined Devourment on drums. During this re-formation, Devourment’s bassist Chris Andrews switched to guitar, and Ruben Rosas switched to his original spot on vocals. It only made sense for them to ask Dave to fill in on bass for their upcoming U.S. tour since he was used to playing a few Devourment songs with Meshiha.
Part way through the U.S. tour, Dave was asked to become a full time member. Since then they have played all over South America, Asia and Europe and the U.S.
For ease of travel, Dave then had us make a fretless 5 string Triton bass with LED inlays and buckeye burl top, based on our Triton guitar shape.
